A Winter Wonderland
Yes, yes I realize no one wants to shovel it BUT can anyone deny the magic, the beauty, of waking up to the first snow. Soon the dread of shovelling it and the fear of driving in it will register and replace that magic, but before it does, the first snow is a wonder. Maybe it reminds us of days when the first snow simply announced the days of tobogganing, skating, the imminent arrival of Santa and (drum roll please) snow days!.
This morning I even hand washed my dishes in the kitchen sink just to gaze out the window to my backyard. (Side note: you don’t have to mow snow either). The beauty of the first snow is undeniable and we all know that first snow won’t last. Perhaps that is part of its charm. As I write this the sun has already laid claim to the best part of it but to live in a climate that does not experience four distinct seasons must be rather dull. At least for me it would be and to be clear, that doesn’t mean I don't enjoy escaping it come February or March but for today, I will revel in it.
